Today, my husband called me outside to experience a once-in-a-Louisiana-lifetime phenomenon. Icicles were melting in the midmorning sun and falling from high up in the trees! It looked like the sky was raining down crystals! Short of a new baby's laugh, I don't know that I've ever heard anything so beautiful.
Last week it was hard to imagine the sun would ever shine again. We had the most snow and ice I've ever seen here. Our little community wasn't prepared to endure a week of sub-freezing temperatures and solid, stockpiled precipitation. Frigid power outages, a trickled water supply, ice glazed roads, closed stores and businesses pushed everyone into lockdown. Things looked bleak, to put it lightly.
In the midst of the storm, I had no idea just a few short days later I would be standing in the sun, feeling its warmth on my back while being swept away by the beauty of all those falling icicles. My focus then was taking care of my family and just making it. I can't tell you how many times I heard the words "survival mode" come from my husband that week.
Standing there, in the middle of the yard, just surrounded by the music of every icicle finding its way to the still snow capped ground, I remembered this time last year. It was just before our anniversary and we had some cold days. Not just the weather either. The relationships in our home were not where we wanted them to be. Financially, we were making it and that was about it. My husband worked faithfully at a job that stole him away from us for at least half of each and every month for our six years of marriage. We were in a winter of sorts.
Then there was a shift. A small one. Just one commitment to a $27 7 Day Rainmaker Challenge my husband bought into after watching a Facebook ad of a couple much like us: a shopper and a nerd. They had found a way to earn a legitimate passive income online and were hosting this challenge to teach other families the process. Well, as you can imagine, I was watching for any sign that these folks might be scammers. After all, just two months before, we bought a toy for our son on Facebook and immediately started getting "those" emails you never signed up for. Oh, and it broke promptly. But, that's another story.
So, I showed up each day of the challenge. It didn't take long before I was completely won over. These guys were for real. They were generous, kind and just real. Each day of the challenge left me excited and already-ready for the next day. I learned a new way of thinking that changed my life forever. "How can I?" soon replaced "I can't." I started to believe in this process and even in myself! My husband saw something spark in me. I was (admittedly) eaves dropping on a call he made to his mom one night. He really thought I could take the skills taught in this challenge and run with it. His mom warned it could be a scam. She's a great mom, always looking out for us.
By the time the challenge was finished, I had gone from super shy and hardly knowing how to use Facebook to understanding how to use the world's most powerful product research software. I also learned how to source a product and where to list it in front of half of the buyers on the internet. Not too shabby for $27 (we can't even make it through McDonalds for that!).
But here's the part where the wind blows and the icicles really start to fall. I learned all this in the dead of winter and used it to prepare the soil, so to speak. I invested in my first batch of seed to plant. Took good care of it. Watered, fertilized and tended the garden. It all started with just one little seed of hope that the spring would indeed come again.
Now, just one year later, we are reaping the harvest of a 6-figure business. And that's just the wrapping paper. The true gift: we have learned how to love better, give more freely, work in harmony and dream so much bigger. The opportunities that have become available to us through this year have turned things around for our family. My husband is now able to work a local job. I am loving working from home and continuing to build our business while still being present with our growing children.
The clock on my laptop now says 12:27 AM. Why on earth am I still awake and pouring my heart out to this screen while my nursing baby sleeps on the couch next to me? Well, because someone loved and believed in me enough to host a seven day live event and eat the ad costs until that video reached my eyeballs while we were snuggled up in this very same spot on the couch a year ago. And I want to pay it forward. I want to see that life-changing, pivotal, monumental shift happen for you and so much more. As Stephen and Chelsey (the much adored shopper and nerd mentioned above) like to say, let my ceiling become your floor.
Now, you have a choice. You can keep going this year at the same pace you've been comfortable with. Or you can make a shift, have a stretch, and grow something beautiful.
If you've read down this far, the challenge is at least worth taking a peek at, right? Here's the link, but you may want to hurry. It starts on February 25th, 2021!
By the way, I'm rooting for ya!
